Most definitely you can! New this year is the rental of rafts at Akers Ferry Canoe Rental. They will put you in at Cedar Grove for the 8 mile journey, or if you want a shorter trip, they will put you in at Welch Spring for a 2 mile trip. Try to avoid Saturdays if you want to avoid the crowds.

Put in at Welch Spring?? I've never seen any mention of Welch Spring as an access point. Is there any place to park a vehicle there?

It's not advertised, but Akers has accomodated people in the past with tube put-ins there and also me with a canoe to do a short 2 mile stretch clean-up there. They will accomodate you to if you ask. There is room to park your vehicle there. Another option is to leave you vehicle at Akers, and have them take you up the hill and down the road to Welch. It's only a hop-skip-and a jump for them, so they shouldn't charge you much for the portal of your raft. It's a very nice float between Welch and Akers, and if you are lazy about it (meaning, not paddling), the 2 miles could last all day.
