Hunting Rules Inside Ozark National Scenic Riverways
Van Buren, Missouri - With the arrival of hunting season, Ozark National Scenic Riverways Protection Ranger staff would like to remind the public of the rules and regulations pertaining to hunting inside the National Park Service area.
Hunting is a time-honored tradition in the Ozarks.
Because of this, hunting was included in the law making the Current and Jacks Fork Rivers into Ozark National Scenic Riverways.
While hunting in this Federally managed park all state laws apply, but in addition, please keep the following rules in mind:
1) All weapons must be unloaded and in a case while driving your car, truck, or ATV. This is different than state regulations.
2) Hunting is permitted in remote areas of the park. Stay outside and away from developed areas including campgrounds, picnic areas, trailheads, or other areas posted "No Hunting".
3) There is privately owned land inside the Ozark NSR's boundary.
All private property laws apply.
4) Camping during deer hunting season is permitted on federally owned lands inside the park.
Except, within 50 feet of caves, river access, river landings, or in an area where a campground is available.
5) Campfires should be kept to a manageable size and under control. Keep the area around campfires clear of flammable material and debris.
6) Vehicles are permitted on maintained paved or gravel roads. Off-road driving (cutting across open fields, through brush, operating in the rivers, etc.) or creating new roads is not permitted.
In addition, please leave the area cleaner than you found it. Pick-up and remove trash and debris you find. This will help keep the park clean and looking beautiful.
Park Ranger staff are here to help you have an enjoyable hunting trip. They are available to answer questions or help in an emergency.
Ranger stations are located throughout Ozark National Scenic Riverways at: Big Spring, Alley Spring, Round Spring, Akers, Pulltite, and Powder Mill.
Or you can call the local Sheriff's Office for assistance.
