Where's the best place to camp when doing a 1 day float on the upper Current (either Akers to Pulltite or Akers to Round Spring)?
I've narrowed it down to Pulltite or Round Spring but am also considering Bay Creek on the Jack's Fork.
Are any of the commercial campgrounds better choices?
Main concerns are scenic beauty and nearby hiking trails. Will be camping 3 nights but only floating 1-1.5 days and no intention of hauling the camping gear in the canoe.
Thanks for all replys and suggestions!

I would recommend Pulltite for a couple of reasons. Since you don't want to haul camping gear, Akers to Pulltite is a reasonable 10 mile float where you can be lazy and stop a lot without having to rush down before dark (the days are getting shorter). Also, you expressed the interest in a hiking trail. Pulltite has "The Pulltite Trail 1.5 miles - located near the Group Camping Area at Pulltite Campground. This trail has exhibits about the ecology of the Ozark forests. Loop trail." Another great reason, most Pulltite campsites have private access to the river. There is a store there, but only open from April-September. The individual sites are first come first serve, but there are 55 of them, and this time of the year it shouldn't be an issue getting one. It is one of the most beautiful campgrounds in the area I think. Now, I'm not putting down Round Spring, for that it is beautiful too, but since you stated "trail", this one stood out for me to elaborate on the most. Round Spring also gets a bit more traffic than Pulltite. I would vote for Pulltite.
Kind Regards,
